Hamilton Academical 1-1 Cove Rangers: Paul Hartley's side stay bottom after draw

  • Published

Cove Rangers' chances of survival in the Scottish Championship were dented as they failed to beat relegation rivals Hamilton Academical.

Paul Hartley's side are still two points adrift at the bottom, having played a game more with just four left.

Cove went ahead with a wonderful solo run and goal from Louis Longstaff.

But they could only hold the lead for four minutes before Conor Smith equalised from the penalty spot after a hand ball.

There was real concern for Cove goalkeeper Scott Fox five minutes before the break when he was laid hoizontal in a clash with Benny Ashley-Seal.

A stretcher was called for but thankfully Fox was eventually able to walk off to be replaced by Kyle Gourlay.

And there was a further injury worry for Cove when Miko Virtanen had to go off with a suspected broken arm.

Hamilton Academical manager John Rankin: "It was probably a better result for us than it was for Cove, but it looked like two teams fighting relegation out there. No one deserved to win."

Cove Rangers manager Paul Hartley: "I still believe we can survive. If you can't finish eighth, then finish ninth and win the play off."
