Sibbald celebrates scoring the game's only goal

Kevin Holt hit a hat-trick as Dundee United moved four points clear at the top of the Scottish Championship with a thrashing of Partick Thistle.

Jim Goodwin's side got off to a flying start as Glenn Middleton's corner found Craig Sibbald to sweep into the net.

Kai Fotheringham sliced wide and Tony Watt struck the bar as the visitors continued to assert control.

Holt's second-half treble and a Scott McMann strike put paid to any notion of a Thistle comeback.

Defender Holt's first was a sensational long-range attempt into the top corner, while the second was a close-range nudge home following a corner.

The 30-year-old completed the hat-trick with a late penalty kick, with McMann's earlier goal the result of a swift counter-attack and a smart knock down from Louis Moult.

The hosts' misery was compounded late on when Aaron Muirhead was dismissed for a second yellow.

United, still unbeaten in the league, increase their advantage over second-place Raith Rovers, who have a game in hand. Third-place Thistle are now seven points off the summit.
