Guernsey FC impressively won their first-ever competitive women's match as they beat Corinthian Casuals 6-1 in the Isthmian League Cup.

Eighteen-year-old striker Codie le Flem scored a first-half hat-trick before Scarlett Kenneally and Emily Pike made it 5-0 after 78 minutes.

The hosts' captain Sophia Demetriou scored a penalty to make it 5-1.

But Elise le Lacheur's 30-yard lob in the 90th minute put the gloss on an impressive debut for the islanders.

"It means the world," Guernsey FC coach Anna Gauvain told BBC Channel Islands.

"Everyone's so pleased for us and it's just getting the girls used to winning.

"We don't know what's to come next so at least they've got that feeling now of doing well and scoring goals."

The Green Lionesses' game came as they continue the rebuild of a sport on the island that not long ago could not even raise a team to play rivals Jersey.

They hope to one day establish themselves in the English league system in the same way Guernsey FC's men's side have done since they formed in 2011.

"It's amazing," said Le Flem, who made her senior debut for Guernsey earlier this year in the Muratti Vase against Jersey and also featured at the island Games - where, as hosts, the Sarnians lost all three of their matches.

"I'm so happy, I didn't think this would happen. I didn't even know what to do or who to run to, what celebration to do.

"All the support I've had coming up to this game has just helped me a lot," she added.
