Guernsey FC have spent the past decade in the eighth tier of English football

Guernsey FC boss Tony Vance says his side has to be more ruthless after their 1-0 loss to Ashford Town.

A 90th-minute winner saw the Green Lions lose for the eighth straight game, despite having chances to break the deadlock earlier in the match.

Guernsey drop to second from bottom in Isthmian League South Central having not won since their first game.

"Our form's been okay to be honest, we're starting to get better at certain things," Vance told BBC Radio Guernsey.

"But to get results you've got to be good in the box and you've got to be ruthless and you've got to punish when you're the better team.

"That's the bit that's not working at the moment, but we'll keep working."

Despite the poor form Vance says he still is not worried at this stage about his side being relegated, with players including Ross Allen and Will Fazakerley still out.

"It's a young group and I know it sounds silly but I'm not worried," Vance said.

"We've got plenty of time to work with this group, there are some players that are making their first steps in this team as well.

"But if anyone wants to know what it's like to manage Guernsey FC today was it.

"You play okay, you're the better team, should have scored, didn't, and smash and grab from the opposition and they win."

He added: "Eight losses is not great, but I know where we are, and we're a lot better watch than we were last year.

"It was horrific last year, so we'll keep going and it'll click, don't worry."
