Lorne Bickley's hat-trick helped Jersey Bulls return to the top of the Combined Counties Premier League South after a 4-2 win at Guildford City.

The islanders' leading scorer gave a them an early lead before Will May levelled shortly after half-time.

Luke Campbell restored Jersey's lead after 52 minutes before Bickley got a second 20 minutes later and wrapped up his hat-trick in stoppage time.

"He led the line really well today," said Bulls manager Gary Freeman.

"I thought his work rate from minute one set a tempo for the rets of us to follow,

"Lorne scored some good centre forward goals. It's all about desire in those positions, so really pleased for Lorne and pleased he got the last one because it meant we could relax."

The win sees the islanders go a point clear of second-placed Farnham Town who were in FA Vase action - they have won all nine of their league games so far and are just a point behind Bulls with four matches in hand.

Third-placed Knaphill are six points behind Freeman;s side and also have played four fewer games.

"It was a tough old game and everyone's had to put a real shift in, so I'm pleased to come through it," added Freeman.

"There's no easy games in this league - you've got to be right at it and the day you're not right at it, you'll get beaten."
