Manchester United 0-3 Manchester City: Red Devils given 'a footballing lesson', say pundits

While Manchester City fans celebrated a big derby victory, the assessment from many pundits of Manchester United's display will not make for pleasant reading for their supporters.
The defending champions breezed to a 3-0 win at Old Trafford on Sunday to move back to within two points of Premier League leaders Tottenham.
The defeat for United, meanwhile, left them eighth and nine points behind their neighbours.
"It's different levels," former Manchester United captain Roy Keane said on Sky Sports. "The United players are just short in every aspect."
His ex-United team-mate Gary Neville said Erik ten Hag's men had been "obliterated", while former Manchester City defender Micah Richards said they were given "a footballing lesson".
"City were amazing," added Richards.
"In the past, people have said they can be boring to watch but you're watching one of the best performances in the Premier League. You normally get those when you're at home.
"I just thought it was an outstanding performance from start to finish."
Poor recruitment and no defined style of play?
It was a difficult game from start to finish for United.
They managed just seven shots on goal compared to City's 21, and when Phil Foden scored the visitors' third in the 80th minute, many home fans made their way to the exit.
The loss was their fifth of the season in the Premier League, meaning they have lost half of their games so far. It is their most defeats from the opening 10 games of a league campaign since 1986-87.
"The difference between the two teams is unbelievable," former England winger Chris Waddle said on BBC Radio 5 live.
"I have been looking and thinking who would I take out of the Manchester United side here and put in the City team - and I can't find one."
United did go into the game with a number of first-team players unavailable through injury, meaning they started with Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans in the centre of defence.
However, ex-United midfielder Robbie Savage believed better business in the transfer market wouldn't have left them so short in key positions.
"You have got to look at the recruitment," he added. "Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans and [Sergio] Reguilon are three of your back four finishing the game for Manchester United against your rivals at Old Trafford. At times it was embarrassing."
Savage felt Manchester United do not yet have a clear playing style as he said: "You look at the top teams in the Premier League and they have got a way to play.
"Manchester United still, after all this time, I have no idea how they are going to play."
Keane was critical of several Man United players, including captain Bruno Fernandes.
"From what I saw today, I would take the captaincy off Fernandes. He is not captain material," Keane said on Sky Sports.
"I would start with that because the manager can control that. He is the opposite to what I would want as a captain."
Ten Hag looks to positives as Guardiola enjoys another derby win
United boss Ten Hag was defiant afterwards and said his players executed the gameplan up to a point.
"I think first half we played very well," he said.
"The gameplan was what we wanted and we defended very good, closing spaces and keeping them away from the goal.
"There was one big save from Andre [Onana] but we had opportunities from two or three big breaks. We need to take benefit from it. We have to take more."
This was City's seventh win at Old Trafford under Pep Guardiola.
"We always have a good feeling here," Guardiola told Sky Sports. "The players played their best and I am really pleased for our fans, I know what it means to them.
"For many years, when Sir Alex [Ferguson] was here, they see United up there and in the last few years we changed the tendency."
Silva stars as City turn on the style
Integral to City's dominant display was Bernardo Silva.
The midfielder appeared to be everywhere on the pitch in a man-of-the-match display and prompted Guardiola to describe him as "one of the best players I have ever seen".
"In that first 10 minutes where it was difficult for City, Bernardo Silva got hold of the game," Neville added.
"I thought he was sensational. City could have scored four or five."
After losing three out of four games in all competitions it is now three consecutive victories for Guardiola's side, who next host struggling Bournemouth in the Premier League as they look to continue their pursuit of leaders Tottenham.
"City are still the team to beat," added former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher.
"I think they'll win the league and win it comfortably."
