Wales will be without influential forwards Ceri Holland and Hannah Cain for Tuesday's Nations League match in Denmark.

Both players picked up injuries in Wales' 5-1 defeat to Germany in Sinsheim on Friday and have returned to their clubs for assessment.

Holland, 25, played for 86 minutes and left the ground on crutches.

Cain played 89 minutes despite appearing to jar her knee in the first half.

The 24-year-old Leicester forward missed the start of the competition in September through injury, just nine months after recovering from a serious knee problem that kept her out of action for over a year.

Holland's club Liverpool said their current player of the year is expected to undergo an MRI scan on Monday on a suspected calf injury.

"Both players picked up small knocks in the Germany game," Wales manager Gemma Grainger told BBC Sport Wales.

"We originally thought we could turn them around for this game against Denmark, but we decided sending them back to their clubs was the best thing for them.

"We believe they are only small injuries and our hope is that they are available for the December games."

Wales are hoping to avoid relegation from the top tier of the Nations League having suffered back-to-back 5-1 defeats against Denmark and Germany and were already without injured Rangers midfielder Rachel Rowe.
