Two goals from James Collins helped Derby County into Friday's draw for the last 16 of the EFL Trophy as they beat Fleetwood 3-0 at Pride Park.

Collins scored a hat-trick in Derby's final group game and added to his haul with goals either side of half-time.

Tyreece John-Jules added a third late on in an easy win for the Rams.

But there will be no fairytale for Wrexham on their return to the EFL Trophy as they were beaten 3-2 by Burton at the Racecourse Ground.

Deji Oshilaja and Mark Helm put Burton 2-0 up inside three minutes before Sam Dalby pulled a goal back two minutes later.

Ryan Sweeney extended Burton's lead with 25 minutes remaining and Jordan Davies' injury-time goal for Wrexham was too little too late.

Derby and Burton will be joined by Bradford City, who romped to a 4-0 win over Liverpool Under-21 with Tyler Smith top and tailing a great night for the Bantams.

He opened the scoring in the seventh minute before Andy Cook and Vadaine Oliver made the tie safe.

Smith rounded off the night in stoppage time as the Premier League youngsters were well beaten in Yorkshire.

Arsenal Under-21 also went down easily as Peterborough United scored three quick goals either side of half-time.

Ryan de Havilland scored the opener nine minutes before the break before Jonson Clarke-Harris added a second as Posh turned round 2-0 ahead.

Malik Mothersille made it three four minutes into the second half as Darren Ferguson's side waltzed into the last 16.

Last year's winners Bolton Wanderers cruised past League One strugglers Port Vale 2-0, extending their unbeaten run in all competition to 11 games.

A 14th goal of the season from Dion Charles and Carlos Mendes Gomes' second-half strike secured qualification for Wanderers.

Dan Nlundulu thought he added a third via the penalty spot late on, but it was forced to be retaken, and the resulting penalty was saved by Jayson Leutwiler

Fellow League One sides, Oxford United and Wycombe Wanderers also progressed to the next round.

The U's managed a narrow 1-0 win away at Forest Green Rovers, whilst the Buckinghamshire side came out on the right end of a thrilling 3-2 score line against Fulham Under-21.

There were better fortunes for both Brighton Under-21 and West Ham United Under-21, with both securing 4-0 victories over MK Dons and Colchester United respectively.

After Blackpool's FA Cup fixture against Forest Green Rovers was postponed at the weekend due to an FA investigation, the Seasiders came from behind to beat fellow League One side Barnsley.

After John McAtee opened the scoring for the Reds just before half-time, second-half goals from Owen Dale and Jake Beesley turned the tie on its head to send the Lancashire side through.

League Two sides Crawley Town and Doncaster Rovers also sealed their places in the next round.

Crawley came from behind to beat 10-man Bristol Rovers in Matt Taylor's first outing in the Rovers dugout, thanks to strikes from Jack Roles and Harry Forster.

Meanwhile, Doncaster endured a more straightforward night, cruising to a 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest Under-21.

Unfortunately, Accrington Stanley had their match with Lincoln City postponed shortly before kick-off after the referee deemed the Wham Stadium pitch surface unplayable.
