A late Tope Fadahunsi goal earned Sutton United a share of the spoils against Newport County in awful conditions in south London.
Shane McLoughlin thought he had earned County the points 11 minutes from full time when he converted substitute James Waite's delivery.
Sutton had scored only once in their previous four games, while County were without a clean sheet in 11.
That record continued for the Exiles as Fadahunsi found the target.
The home side were without top scorer Harry Smith who was serving his first of a four-game suspension, while County's bench featured recalled defender Harrison Bright who was unused after returning from a loan spell at Barry Town United.
Sutton remain in the bottom two but close the gap on Colchester United to five points, while Newport stay in 18th place in the League Two table.
Newport manager Graham Coughlan said:
"It's very frustrating (conceding a late equaliser).
"The goalkeeping situation has been an issue since I came into the club, we just can't seem to nail it down.
"It's a poor goal to give away, Nick [Townsend] has made plenty of saves during his time here at this football club but he won't be pleased when he watches that back, it's a basic error and we got punished for it.
"We're having too many of those silly, daft, shooting ourselves in the foot moments, we're the catalysts of our own downfall."
