Dagenham & Redbridge owner Peter Freund has announced he is to sell the east London club.
Executive chairman Freund said he felt he had "failed" fans in not returning the club to the Football League.
The Daggers were relegated to the National League in 2015-16, with Freund assuming control in 2018.
"I have proven not to be the individual to move this club toward promotion, despite investing heavily in our roster," Freund said., external
"On this front, with my deepest sincerity, I feel I have failed you, the supporters and for that I will forever be filled with a great deal of regret.
"Therefore, effective immediately, I have decided to look for new investors to join the club and I will make plans to step aside to allow a new individual or group to take the Daggers and the club's amazing legacy forward."
The Daggers achieved a play-off finish in their first season back in the National League, but lost 3-1 on aggregate to Forest Green Rovers in the semi-final.
Since then the club have not finished in the play-off positions and are currently 15th in the table - 10 points off seventh spot and only six points above the relegation zone.
"As an ownership group we believe we have accomplished a great deal," US businessman Freund continued in his statement.
"I believe we can hold our heads high that we have done things the right way off the pitch."
