South Yorkshire Police have launched an investigation into alleged racially aggravated abuse after a racist gesture was aimed at Coventry midfielder Kasey Palmer by a Sheffield Wednesday fan.
The incident happened during City's 2-1 win at Hillsborough on Saturday.
Wednesday said that anyone "found culpable" would face the "strictest possible sanctions".
South Yorkshire Police are "working alongside the clubs and West Midlands Police to identify those involved".
"Anyone with information is asked to report online, via live chat or by calling 101 quoting incident number 323 of 20 January 2024," they said in a statement.
