Wycombe Wanderers have signed midfielder Matt Butcher following his release by Plymouth Argyle.

The 26-year-old made 66 appearances for Argyle and was a member of their League One title-winning side last season.

He began his career in the Bournemouth youth set-up before spending two years with Accrington Stanley.

Butcher is Wycombe's second January transfer-window signing following the arrival of former Burton Albion forward Beryly Lubala on Tuesday.

The permanent deal was announced at half-time in their Bristol Street Motors Trophy quarter-final win against Brighton Under-21s.

"With the success we had last year (at Plymouth), I was itching to continue that but obviously didn't play a great deal at the start of the season," Butcher told BBC Three Counties Radio.

"That was on my mind after playing so much (last season) and wanted to come to a place where it was a similar sort of feeling, with a similar sort of people, and the togetherness and group ethic is very similar.

"That was a massive driving force in terms of me joining and hopefully we can climb the table before the end of the season."
