Port Vale have sealed loan deals for Nottingham Forest winger Alex Mighten and Barnsley defender Kacper Lopata, both until the end of the season.

Lopata was signed after Rhys Williams was forced to return to parent club Liverpool, following the emergence of an unspecified underlying injury.

Williams, 22, who only signed on 16 January, departs without having made a single appearance for Vale.

Vale sit 20th in League One, three points above the relegation zone.

Vale made five loan signings during the January window, starting with Brighton midfielder Jensen Weir and Williams, then Manchester United teenager Daniel Gore, followed now by Lopata and Mighten, who are both available for this Saturday's trip to fellow strugglers Fleetwood.

But they lost Tottenham Hotspur loan man Alfie Devine, who has gone out on another loan a level higher up with Plymouth Argyle, while defender Kofi Balmer was recalled by Crystal Palace, before going out again to Wimbledon.

United States-born Mighten, 21, has scored four goals in 67 appearances for Forest since making his debut in 2019.

He spent time on loan at Sheffield Wednesday last season and with Belgian side Kortrijk earlier in this campaign.

Poland Under-21 centre-back Lopata, who joined Barnsley from Woking in June 2023, has played 15 times this term.
