Rangers midfielder Jose Cifuentes has joined Cruzeiro on a 12-month loan, with the Brazilian side having an option to buy the 24-year-old.

Other clubs, including Rizespor of Turkey, had shown an interest in the Ecuador international, who was signed from Los Angeles in August.

Cifuentes has made 20 appearances for Rangers but only six league starts.

He penned a four-year contract at Ibrox and was the final signing of Michael Beale, who was sacked in October.

Five of Cifuentes' starts came after the appointment of Philippe Clement, but the midfielder has not featured since being substituted at half-time in Rangers' 3-2 Europa League win over Real Betis on 14 December.

Cruzeiro finished 14th in the Brazilian top flight last season and start their 2024 campaign in April.
