Northampton Town expect top scorer Sam Hoskins to be out "for a few weeks" because of a hamstring injury.

The 31-year-old scored 22 goals to help the Cobblers win promotion last season and has added 14 in 27 league games this campaign.

But he had to go off after 40 minutes of last Saturday's 4-1 defeat by League One leaders Portsmouth.

"We're really careful about putting a timeframe on it," boss Jon Brady told BBC Radio Northampton.

"If we get him back within a month that would be a bonus."

Hoskins has had a scan on the injury and Brady continued: "We hope it is more of a short-term thing and it could have been worse."

Northampton are 11th in the table ahead of Saturday's game against third-placed Bolton in a season where they have also suffered plenty of injuries in defence.

"Constantly changing your backline, you (also) have to change your set-pieces, and that's pretty hard," Brady said.

"We pride ourselves on our defensive capabilities, but it is what it is and we've got to try and cope with it and adapt.

"Unfortunately that's the situation at the moment."

Northampton will also be without midfielder Sam Sherring against Bolton after he injured an ankle in the warm-up before the Portsmouth game.
