Airdrieonians moved into the Scottish Championship promotion play-off places with a 5-2 victory over Arbroath.

Bottom side Arbroath led through Ryan Dow but Aaron Lyall slotted Airdrie level and Liam McStravick rounded the goalkeeper to make it 2-1 to the hosts.

Mason Hancock's header made it three but David Gold replied for Arbroath.

Charlie Telfer restored Airdrie's two-goal lead and Craig Watson headed in a Telfer cross to ensure the Diamonds went fourth.

Arbroath remain eight points adrift at the bottom after a third successive away defeat.

Airdrie player/manager Rhys McCabe: "The last few weeks especially we've had a couple of tough away ties and we've obviously gone to Tannadice and picked up a vital three points. There's still plenty of football to go. We've given ourselves a possibility of making the play-offs."

Arbroath manager Jim McIntyre: "We lose three goals from set-plays, which is just unacceptable. We lost two last week. You need to want to match runners. Those type of things are absolutely killing us."
