Falkirk players and manager John McGlynn celebrated their League One title win pre-match

Falkirk have clinched the Scottish League 1 title with five games to spare to end five seasons in the third tier.

Their triumph was sealed after second-top Hamilton Academical were held to a goalless draw with Queen of the South.

And they celebrated in style by crushing fourth-placed hosts Montrose 7-1 in the later kick-off.

John McGlynn's side remain unbeaten in the league with five games of the season remaining and are 19 points clear of Hamilton.

Accies have themselves secured a place in the promotion play-offs.

Striker Ross MacIver and midfielder Aidan Nesbitt scored doubles for Falkirk at Links Park, with Ethan Ross, Alfredo Agyeman and Ryan Shanley also on the scoresheet.
