New Morecambe boss Ashvir Singh Johal has added five more players to his squad with the signings of goalkeeper Archie Mair, defenders Ben Williams, Ludwig Francilette and Alie Sesay and midfielder Jake Cain.

Mair, 24, who began his career with Norwich City, returns to the club where he had a loan spell in 2024.

Left-back Williams, 26, previously had spells at Cheltenham Town and Barnsley, while centre-half Francilette, 26, spent time with Newcastle United and Crawley Town.

Sesay, 31, who came through Leicester's academy and previously had a season at Barnet, returns to English football after eight years away during which time he has played for clubs in Sweden, Greece, Bulgaria, Azerbaijan, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Vietnam.

Cain, 23, who started his career with Liverpool and made one senior appearance for the Reds, played 25 times for League Two Swindon last season.

All five players could make their debut for the Shrimps when they play their first game of the season against Altrincham on Saturday.

At the start of this week, the BBC understood Morecambe had just five players under contract, but the club has subsequently announced the arrival of seven new players so far.
