Cardiff City winger Ollie Tanner has been ruled out for four months with an ankle injury.
The 23-year-old collided with an advertising board just before half-time during the 1-0 win at AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday night and had to be carried off.
Tanner, who joined the Bluebirds from Lewes in July 2022, has only recently signed a new four-year contract.
"Ollie's damaged ligaments in his ankle pretty severely. There's a small fracture in his fibula," said Cardiff head coach Brian Barry-Murphy.
Barry-Murphy: 'Tanner injury won't change transfer plans'
"We'll have a meeting with the specialist in the next few days to decide on the next course of treatments.
"The level of care he had at the game was exceptional. I'm very lucky to have worked at some of the best clubs in the world. On Tuesday night our medical department gave him the best care possible. I'm very grateful to have that here at the club.
"From here moving forward he'll be very confident that he'll make a full recovery, and be even better when he comes back."
Cian Ashford and Chris Willock are the only natural wingers left in the Cardiff squad, although Isaak Davies - Cardiff's match-winner at Wimbledon - is able to play there as well.
Even though Tanner's injury leaves Barry-Murphy short of wingers, there is no guarantees that the club will sign another wide player before the transfer window closes on 1 September.
"It doesn't change our idea where's the squad at or what we're going to do," Barry-Murphy added.
"We've got clear plans in place on how to improve the squad.
"We're not going to be reactive to one player's injury by going to recruit a player just for the sake of it."
