Thorup on Barnes leaving and new winger
- Published
Norwich City head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup has been speaking to the press ahead of the Canaries' Championship encounter with Coventry City on Saturday (15:00 GMT).
On Friday it was confirmed that winger Lewis Dobbin has joined City on loan from Aston Villa until the end of the season, following news that striker Ashley Barnes has left the club and rejoined promotion hopefuls Burnley.
Here are some of the key points from today's media conference:
Midfielder Anis Ben Slimane suffered an ankle ligament injury at Luton and will be out for "four to six weeks".
The head coach says he expects news of a potential FA charge for Borja Sainz to come later on Friday. Sainz was involved in an incident at the Sunderland game on 21 December 2024.
Thorup on Dobbin signing: "He can also play as a '9' for us and he's a good runner. He can run in behind".
More on Dobbin: "I think he's best when he is on the left and can dribble in and shoot. He will be in the squad tomorrow (Saturday)".
Thorup on Barnes' departure: "He actually wanted to stay but he wanted more clarity on game time and what he can expect. From a club perspective we could use him but we have to accept his situation - but from his perspective, his contract runs out this summer".
Thorup says Norwich won't look to replace Barnes but that the club are looking at potential offensive recruits during the January transfer window.
