Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton, who finished fourth in Austria: "Mega, mega progress for us as a team, I have to say a huge thank you to the guys at the factory for bringing the upgrade this weekend. It didn't seem much on paper but it was a really small step but perhaps it had a bigger influence on our performance. For us to be the second fastest team this weekend, we're not a minute down from the McLarens which is a positive and to bag some really strong points, definitely happy with it for sure.

"From my my side, struggling with the balance in the race, just struggling to hold on to the pace and lost a bit too much ground but that's something I need to work on.

"I will keep working at it, I feel like I made progress this weekend, less than a tenth off Charles in qualifying and we found a problem through qualifying with the brakes, that's a positive."

Red Bull's Max Verstappen race came to an end in the first lap after Kimi Antonelli collided with the Dutchman. He spoke to Sky Sports: "It's unlucky like yesterday in qualifying but overall we didn't really have great pace anyway this weekend, so a lot of learnings for us on how we can hopefully do better next weekend. It was not an ideal result today."

On the cars performance: "We try to do our best always, my mentality doesn't change, we've won a lot in the past and sometimes you have to accept that you're not winning and we just try and do the best we can."

BBC 5 Live's Rosanna Tennant spoke to McLaren team principal Andrea Stella: "First of all with Oscar Piastri he keeps building during the weekend so we knew today he would be in contention for the victory.

"He did a good job at the start and took over immediately the position and then here in Austria with the DRS being so powerful, if the cars are similar then you stay hooked to the car ahead which makes it entertaining from a sporting and racing point of view.

"That was great racing so we're happy with the result and how our drivers handled themselves, P1 and P2 we couldn't have asked for any better today."

On Lando Norris: "I think the positive momentum has already shifted since Monaco and I think in Canada a couple of inaccuracies in execution.

"The speed has always been there for Lando and we needed to polish a couple of things and I think he's demonstrated once again what kind of talent and race craft he has.

"I would immediately say the same for Oscar, we're very lucky to have two great drivers."

  8. Piastri leads the waypublished at 16:25 British Summer Time 29 June

This is how the top 10 of the drivers' championship looks after round 11. Max Verstappen has fallen behind the McLaren duo because of his retirement on Red Bull's home soil, so now the Dutchman is 61 points adrift of leader Oscar Piastri and 46 back on second-placed Lando Norris.

Nico Hulkenberg has moved himself into the top half the table with his ninth place today. The German, in tenth, is one point behind Haas' Esteban Ocon.

    1. Oscar Piastri (McLaren) - 216 pts

    2. Lando Norris (McLaren) - 201

    3. Max Verstappen (Red Bull) - 155

  9. 'Upgrades have helped us to take a step forward' - Leclercpublished at 16:19 British Summer Time 29 June

Charles Leclerc, who finished third for Ferrari: "I rate our weekend as a team really well but unfortunately the pace today was just not enough.

"In the first corner I was thinking about going but Lando [Norris] closed the door and then that left the door open for Oscar [Piastri], I lost the second place there.

"They were too fast anyway for us to stay in second, so third was the best we could do, I don’t regret much of what we’ve done today, I think we’ve done our maximum, just not enough pace."

On the car: "In the first set I think I over pushed a little bit in the beginning trying to follow and I degraded a little bit more, but it’s part of the game and I tried at the end but I didn’t make it.

"Eventually we need more pace, we’ve brought some upgrades this weekend and they’ve definitely helped us to take a step forward. We need to keep pushing in that direction to close the gap to the McLarens that for now are too quick.

"I will give it my all to try and get back on the top step of the podium, obviously this is our main priority, the whole team deserves it."

  10. 'I tried my absolute best' - Piastripublished at 16:14 British Summer Time 29 June

Oscar Piastri speaking to Lando NorrisImage source, Getty Images

McLaren's Oscar Piastri, who finished second at the Austrian Grand Prix: "Intense, I hope it was good watching because it was pretty hard work from the car so tried my absolute best but could have done a better job when I just got ahead momentarily but it was a good battle, bit on the edge at times. Probably pushed the limit a bit far but it was a good race and that's what we were here to do, race each other and try and fight for wins. That's what we did today, it was close for me but not quite enough. Thanks to the team. To have the kind of pace we did whilst battling each other, it was very impressive. I can't thank the team enough for the car we've got.

On if he was surprised to push team-mate Lando Norris so close: "I thought it was possible. Qualifying, yesterday, was unfortunate with the yellow flag. I felt like the pace this weekend has been good. Once I could stay in the DRS, it felt pretty good. Once I dropped out after the first stop, it was tough to make the progress to get back. Some things to go over to see if we could have done anything better."

  11. 'It was a perfect result for the team' - Norrispublished at 16:09 British Summer Time 29 June

McLaren’s Lando Norris, who takes his third win of the season in Austria: "It was a tough race, pushing all the way through, it was tricky, hot and tiring. It was a perfect result for the team, a one-two is exactly what we want and we did it again so I’m very happy.

On the battle with his team-mate Oscar Piastri: "We had a great battle that’s for sure, it was a lot of fun and stress. A nice battle so well done to Oscar [Piastri], hopefully it was a nice one for everyone to watch.

"Inside the car it was obviously tough especially in the DRS, it’s so tough round here and it’s hard to get him out of the gap but once I did I could manage things pretty well, but it was still quick so it was good fun."

The trophies have been handed out - by former F1 bigwig Bernie Ecclestone, who give Lando Norris' cheek a little stroke - and now it's time for the Briton, Oscar Piastri and Charles Leclerc to spray each other with expensive champagne and celebrate.

Piastri's lead over Norris at the top of the drivers' championship was 22 points before today's race, now it's down to 15 points.

Oscar Piastri, meanwhile, is sitting all alone in the cooldown room, no friends to watch the highlights with. "Ah, that was fun," says Lando Norris when he arrives. The Australian then tells his team-mate and Charles Leclerc to look, as the incident with Franco Colapinto flashes up on the screen. That could've been a big moment in the title race, had Piastri's race been ruined.
