Salford City have signed centre-back Stephan Negru from Oxford on a season-long loan.

Negru, who made 13 appearances in League One last season, links up again Karl Robinson who was his former boss at Oxford.

“He is a big part of why I came here,” the 21-year-old admitted. “I am excited to be playing underneath him, and getting the minutes that I need.

“He is someone that you trust in and he trusts in you. He builds your confidence, and I like the style of football that he plays.”

Negru began his career with Shelbourne in the League of Ireland before moving to Oxford at the start of the January 2023 transfer window.

He is Salford’s third signing this summer, following the arrivals of West Ham winger Dan Chesters and striker Cole Stockton from Burton Albion.
