Charlton Athletic midfielder Sonny Carey says he "loves" head coach Nathan Jones' "unmatched passion" as the Addicks target back-to-back promotions.

Last season's League One play-off final winners are up to fifth in the Championship after Tuesday's dramatic 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion.

Carey hit a 96th-minute winner and immediately ran to embrace his manager.

"I love him", Carey, 24, told BBC Radio London.

"The passion he has is unmatched, for the football club and for everything. I've seen before when we've scored, he's standing on the advertising boards and stuff.

"I didn't know where to run, then I've turned and just seen the gaffer and thought 'I'm going to head for him'."

Carey arrived from League One side Blackpool this summer as Jones' first signing since winning promotion to the Championship - and is the club's top-scorer with five goals this term.

"I think this is probably the most I've enjoyed my football," he added. "I love it coming in every day. Its a great group of lads, a great manager and a great staff, so yeah, I'm loving it."

Back-to-back promotions? 'Anything is possible'

Carey's stoppage-time winner on Tuesday means Charlton have taken 11 points from five unbeaten games.

He added: "The gaffer says anything is possible. With the belief we have in the squad, and the togetherness that we have, I do truly believe anything is possible.

"We're not getting carried away. We're taking it game by game. We've got another tough game, we've got to go away to Wrexham, and then we've got the international break, but things are going well at the minute and we're in good form.

"Every team in the Championship is good. There are no easy games. You name any of the 24 teams, they're all good. But we know that if we're on it, we can beat anyone this season".

Fuller is 'going to the top'

This is Carey's second full season playing in the Championship after one campaign in the second tier with Blackpool in 2022-23 before being relegated down to League One.

Charlton fans even have their own chant for the midfielder, and were singing it after his dramatic winner against the Baggies.

"I love hearing it, I have a little smile on my face," Carey added.

Carey is also enjoying the emergence of Charlton's latest academy star, 18-year-old Ibrahim Fuller, who signed a new long-term contract with the club in April.

"I'm delighted for him," Carey added. "The first thing he does today is Maradona-spin someone. He is some player, and you see it in training, day in, day out. He's fearless, and he's going to the top.

"When he comes on I tell him just to be confident and get on the ball, and that's what he's like. He always wants the ball. Some of the things he does, you think 'he's a teenager doing this'. He's a great player and he's got a bright future."
