Peterborough United have signed Fleetwood Town right-back Carl Johnston for what the League One club calls "a sizeable six-figure fee".

The Northern Ireland Under-21 international, 22, has played 110 times for Fleetwood since moving to the club from Linfield in 2018.

He follows former Fleetwood team-mates Chris Conn-Clarke and Cian Hayes, who joined Posh in the summer, and is Peterborough's second signing this winter after striker Gustav Lindgren.

Peterborough say Johnston has signed a "long-term" deal with the club.

"He is a defender who can play in a number of different positions and is a player I have been aware of for some time now," Peterborough united manager Darren Ferguson told the club website. , external

"He marked Ephron Mason-Clark when we played Fleetwood and didn't give him a kick."
