Neil Harris has warned his Cambridge United players he will carry on moaning despite their Carabao Cup heroics.

The U's manager saw his League Two underdogs bridge a gap of 47 places to dump Championship side Charlton out of the competition on Tuesday and reach the third round for the first time in 27 years.

However despite the "brilliant" win, Harris believes there is more to come from his side and is happy to play the role of club misery to help them reach their potential.

"There's so many positives. The one negative is that we conceded a goal just before half-time which is criminal from our perspective," the 48-year-old told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.

"I said to the players that it's my job as a moaning old git to keep on at them and keep driving it. We have to cut that out because there's still not the consistency that I demand.

"My demand is that we are consistent for 90 minutes. I'm going to keep talking about it until my team does it.

"You're not seeing a Neil Harris team at the moment. You're seeing glimpses of what we can look like as an attacking unit, we're creating chances but we have to stop it at the other end.

"I'm not happy that we conceded a goal but I'm delighted to beat a Championship outfit and be through to the next round."

Cambridge switch back to league action on Saturday with a home game against Newport before Oldham visit the Cledara Abbey Stadium the following week.

"Before the game we talked about it being three home games in 10 days. We've ticked the first box and now we have to make sure we win on Saturday," Harris added.
