Derby County defender Ryan Nyambe has been ruled out for up to six months with a knee injury.

The 26-year-old Namibia international was hurt in the first half of Saturday's draw at Millwall, and scans since have shown he suffered a posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) injury.

"We knew there was going to be damage done," Derby boss Paul Warne told BBC Radio Derby.

"He has done his PCL, so that's like four to six months and is a big chunk of our season, which is disappointing."

Nyambe had made 11 appearances in all competitions this season before being forced out.

The former Wigan and Blackburn defender had quickly re-established himself in the Rams defence after his influence on Derby's promotion from League One last term was curtailed by a thigh injury.

"I'm really disappointed for Ryan," Warne said. "He started the season well, he is a really accomplished defender and a great kid.

"He is heartbroken, as you can well imagine."
