Port Vale boss Darren Moore says he "totally gets" the levels of frustration among the club's supporters after seeing them slip to the bottom of League One.

Saturday's 1-0 home defeat by fellow strugglers Plymouth Argyle was their fourth in their past five in the league and sent them to the foot of the table in place of the Pilgrims.

Vale have not won in the league since a 2-1 victory at Barnsley on 27 September.

"I totally get where the fans are at. I can't affect the fans until I affect the dressing room," Moore told BBC Radio Stoke.

"I've spoken to the lads. If we get a positive result, those fans will be there with us.

"Their frustration is there because we've lost another game they've come to see us win. They want to win. We want to win.

"If we get the right result, that will go hand in hand. I totally get it. We've spoken about working hard to turn it [around]."

CEO Hancock confident results will improve

The final whistle at Vale Park was greeted by booing and sections of the home crowd calling for Moore, who guided Vale to automatic promotion from League Two last season, to be sacked.

However, the Vale boss says the reaction was not a surprise.

"It's football. You've got to understand it," he said.

"I've been in the game 30 years and won promotions and been part of relegation fights so I get it.

"That won't change. You've got to understand the work that's needed to carry on going forward and we are determined to turn performances on the pitch around and get our season up and running."

Speaking to the club's official TV channel, chief executive Matt Hancock said, although there was "a lot of frustration in the club and in the supporter base", the club are still "doing the right things" to try to improve their situation.

"None of us want to be where we are in the league," he said., external

"Darren and the team are working day in, day out to try to get us where we believe we should be - further up that table.

"For me, collectively, we do turn it around and get out of it."

Vale travel to third-placed Lincoln City in their next game on Saturday.
