Robins: "We are shocked"

Yeovil Town executive chairman Stuart Robins said the club have been left "shocked" by the departure of manager Danny Webb after just one match.

Webb quit the Glovers on Monday, citing personal and family reasons only 10 days after being appointed following Mark Cooper's sacking in August.

Webb, who played for Yeovil during his career, oversaw a 1-0 loss at Tamworth on Saturday in what proved his only match in the dugout for the National League club.

"We are shocked but now our focus is on making sure we do the best for Yeovil Town football club," Robins told BBC Radio Somerset.

"We had the phone call from Danny just about 24 hours ago and our first concern was for him and his family because in these situations that's what you've got to think about first.

"We've spoken to him again today and he seems to be in a reasonable place and we just want him to be well and whatever he does going forward we hope it works out for him."

Assistant coach Richard Dryden, who was placed in interim charge before Webb's appointment, will now lead the club for the rest of the campaign.

Robins said that decision, rather than seeking to bring a new face in for the second time, was to give the players "stability".

"We talk a lot about stability and unfortunately we hadn't had that for one reason or another," he said.

I was very concerned that we made sure the players were protected and that they knew what was going on going forward as quickly as possible.

"They were shocked and then they just wanted to galvanise together."

Yeovil are 17th in the table with three wins from their 10 league matches. They travel to Aldershot Town for their next fixture on Wednesday.

Robins added that Dryden will have funds to bring more players in and the squad in the near future.

"Additional budget was available to Danny and now that's available to Richard, to make sure that we can add to the squad so that we can hopefully will climb up the table," Robins added.

"It's a little bit of a setback but we'll make sure we come through this stronger."
