John Askey says he is seeing improvement in his Truro City side after their 3-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion Under-21s in the National League Cup.

Seidou Sanogo, 25, gave the Tinners a 25th-minute lead before Dominic Johnson-Fisher doubled the tally 11 minutes into the second half.

Sanogo wrapped the win up with a header in the fourth minute of stoppage time as the Cornish side secured a place in the next round with a game to spare.

The win means Truro are unbeaten in five of their last seven matches in all competitions - one of those defeats being on penalties in the FA Cup last week.

"The main thing is we've been playing well," Askey told BBC Radio Cornwall.

"You can see a difference from the start of the season to where we are.

"I think we are improving. There's still plenty to to improve on but it's always nice to win and it keeps everybody buoyant and it was a good workout for the players who've not played many minutes."

Sanogo is one of those players, having made just one appearance for the Tinners this season after recovering from a broken leg.

Askey hopes Sanogo's goals will help get him a temporary move elsewhere to get him more match minutes.

"He's not been able to get into the team and we've been trying to get him out on loan," he said.

"He needs to play because he's missed so much football.

"But his attitude's fantastic and I thought tonight he did well. "
