Cheltenham Town left-back Ryan Haynes has been ruled out for up to six months with a serious knee injury he suffered in last Saturday's 2-1 defeat by Salford.

Haynes, 28, was replaced in the 51st minute and could now be missing for a large chunk of the season.

Robins manager Michael Flynn said: "It's not looking good.

"Ryan is looking like he'll be out for four to six months from something completely innocuous.

"That just seems to be the cards we are getting dealt at the moment."

Haynes has made eight appearances for the Robins since signing in the summer after an injury-hit spell with Northampton.

"He will need an operation next week," Flynn told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.

"We have Jordan Thomas out injured so I thank the board for bringing in Lewis Shipley or we would be really struggling in that area.

"It shows the importance of having a full squad."
