Swansea have slipped down the table in 2025 having been within four points of the play-off places at the end of December

Luke Williams described this week as his toughest in football after Swansea City began life without Matt Grimes with a home defeat to Coventry City.

First-half goals from Ellis Simms and Brandon Thomas-Asante condemned Williams' Swansea side to a fourth successive Championship loss.

Swansea have taken only one point from a possible 18 in 2025, a dreadful run which has included heavy defeats at Portsmouth, Norwich City and rivals Cardiff City.

They are now having to cope with the departure of Grimes, with their midfield playmaker's absence apparent as they were beaten by the Sky Blues.

"We have had some really poor results and we have just lost our captain who was a huge influence on the team," said Swansea head coach Williams.

"So it's been an incredibly tough week, and a tough month to be honest.

"It's something that is going to define many of us, whether we can come through it."

Unusually, Williams went straight down the Swansea.com Stadium tunnel at full-time rather than acknowledging the home crowd.

When asked what was going through his mind at that point, he said: "I am in a world of pain, a whole world of pain.

"So I needed a few moments to myself because I have to try to compose myself to speak to the players and to speak to you in the correct way. I needed a few moments."

Swansea, who remain seven points above the relegation zone despite their latest defeat, were booed off by some sections of their support at half-time and full-time.

Williams said he had no complaints over the fans' reaction as he insisted Swansea will turn their poor form around.

"I certainly will do everything I possibly can, until I'm told not to, or until our fortunes turn," he added.

"If you are a fan of the club, it's with you all the time. If you are the head coach, there's nowhere that Swansea City is not with you.

"But I am not made of sugar, so I will keep trying as much as I possibly can."
