Ian Culverhouse has left St Albans City just four days before an FA Cup first-round tie to return for a third spell as King's Lynn Town head coach.
The 61-year-old will be joined in Norfolk by assistant Paul Bastock, with The Linnets currently 19th in National League North.
"St Albans City FC is disappointed to confirm that Ian Culverhouse and Paul Bastock have departed the club in order to join another club," the Saints posted on their website., external
"The club in question was asked out of courtesy if they would not approach Ian and Paul until after the FA Cup first-round tie, however this request was ignored and Ian and Paul were given a deadline to reply.
"After reflection, and despite their hearts being with the club and the fact they would have loved to be in the dugout at Burton (Albion), Ian and Paul decided to leave City due to a variety of reasons including travel and these new roles being full time positions."
Former Norwich defender Culverhouse, who has also managed Grantham Town, Kettering Town and Boston United, replaces James Rowe at King's Lynn.
He resigned last month after only four months in charge and Joe Simpson has been in interim charge since then.
"He has shown honesty, dedication, and a genuine care for the badge," said Linnets chief executive Bal Srai.
"The club can confirm it hopes Joe will continue to play a role within the football structure moving forward, and discussions will continue with him regarding a broader position at the Docherty Walks Stadium.
"With Ian and Paul now in place, the focus turns fully to the pitch and climbing the league table."
