Morecambe boss Derek Adams has admitted there is a sense of surprise at the club that they remain in the League Two relegation places despite their recent good form.

The 49-year-old was named League Two manager of the month on Friday having picked up wins against Harrogate and Swindon in November.

Despite following that up with a draw against fellow strugglers Tranmere Rovers, Adams' side are still two points adrift of safety in 23rd position.

Asked if he was surprised his club are still in the bottom two, Adams told BBC Radio Lancashire: "We are from a performance point of view but we have to be taking big chances when they come along.

"We have to finish teams off and we haven't done that this season and that is down to not finishing the opportunities that have come along because we've certainly created them."

Adams said he needs to make some additions to his side in January in order to improve their fortunes during a busy month which will also see them take on Premier League side Chelsea in the FA Cup third round.

"We're probably looking at three or four incomings at this moment in time if possible and the outgoings, we're not sure as yet," he added.

"There might be one or two that have to move out to allow them to get game time somewhere else.

"We probably won't get them in as quickly as everyone hopes as that is the nature of the January transfer window."
