MK Dons sign defender Mellish on loan from Wigan

Jon Mellish has become MK Dons' ninth addition of this transfer window

MK Dons have signed defender Jon Mellish on a season-long loan from Wigan Athletic.

The 27 year-old has become MK Dons' ninth summer signing, further strengthening head coach Paul Warne's squad who have already made an impressive start to the season and currently sit third in League Two.

Mellish joined Wigan in January after almost six years at Carlisle United where he became a fan favourite.

He brings valuable experience to MK Dons having helped Carlisle win promotion to League One via the play-offs in 2022-23.

Mellish, who can also play in midfield, told the club's website: "The way I like to play is quite aggressive, so hopefully that'll get the fans going, we want to be winning games, simple as that.

"I'm quite an ambitious person, and I want to succeed."

Warne's side are next in action and Mellish could make his debut when MK Dons host Walsall on Saturday.
