Wolverhampton Wanderers have signed Crystal Palace goalkeeper Sam Johnstone for £10m

The 31-year-old moves to Molineux on a four-year contract after two seasons with the Eagles.

It comes after Wolves were priced out of a move for Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, who is close to joining Southampton, having made a loan bid with an option to buy for around £20m.

Wolves sporting director Matt Hobbs said: “It's great for us to have a player with a huge amount of Premier League experience and an international goalkeeper.

"It's finding the right balance between the level of investment, what it adds to the squad and what it enables us to do for the rest of the squad."

Johnstone, who spent four years playing at Wolves' rivals West Brom, was set for a season on the bench at the Eagles.

He was stripped of his No. 1 jersey just before the campaign with Dean Henderson now boss Oliver Glasner's preferred goalkeeper at Selhurst Park.

“New day, new number,” he wrote on social media, followed by four crying-laughing emojis and the number 32 in a circle in different colours after the squad numbers were announced.

Johnstone, who started his career at Manchester United, has four senior England caps and made 34 appearances for Palace after joining on a free transfer from West Brom in 2022.

Meanwhile, Wolves are also close to the signing of Fluminense midfielder Andre for £21m.
