Liverpool have confirmed the appointment of John Heitinga as assistant coach.

The former Everton, Fulham, Ajax and Atletico Madrid defender is the latest addition to new manager Arne Slot's backroom staff before the start of the 2024-25 season.

Heitinga, 40, who also made 87 appearances for the Netherlands, most recently worked under David Moyes as first-team assistant coach at West Ham.

The Reds begin their first pre-season after the departure of Jurgen Klopp with a friendly on Saturday, 27 July against Real Betis in Pennsylvania.
