Burton Albion are looking for new investors after confirming the club made a loss of over £8m last season.

The Nordic Football Group (NFC) took over The Brewers last year but they only just clung on to their League One status, finishing one point clear of the bottom four.

It was announced in May that the leadership group was undergoing changes, with Richard Dorman and Tom Mahon brought in as sporting director and chief operating officer.

A club statement said the loss was the result of decision that "did not align" with a long-term target of building a sustainable future.

The statement continued: "The Nordic Football Group has decided to cover the financial loss through a shareholder loan, which will subsequently be waived.

"This ensures that Burton Albion FC is not burdened with debt and can continue to operate on a financially stable footing.

"Since May 2025, under the guidance of a newly formed board and the appointment of Tom Mahon and Richard Dorman as directors, Burton Albion FC has taken decisive steps to restructure its operations and implement a more sustainable financial model."

Because of steps already taken, Burton say they expect losses for the current season to be 30-40% lower than last season's figure.

The ownership group included 18 people at the time of the takeover, but is now down to 10 who have, what the club, say is a "significant interest", including ice hockey player Mats Zuccarello.

However, Burton have now appointed sports investment agency Pinto Capital to "identify and onboard new investors".

The statement said: "This process will be approached with care and patience, as we seek for investors who can strengthen our ownership group and share our vision and values and help elevate Burton Albion to a successful future."

In July, it was announced that Burton were being investigated by the Football Association over the 23 transfer deals they completed in the summer of 2024 - a British record number for a single transfer window.

Meanwhile, this season has not begun well and the team are currently in 21st place under boss Gary Bowyer, with just nine points from 10 games.

The Brewers are at home to Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.
