Peterborough United have signed Accrington Stanley midfielder Ben Woods for an undisclosed fee on a four-year contract.

Woods, 22, scored 11 goals in 82 appearances for the Lancashire club, his last outing against Gillingham on 2 August, but he is currently recovering from a hand injury.

He began his career in Manchester United's youth system and had a spell in Scotland with Inverness Caledonian Thistle before joining Accrington in the summer of 2023.

"He has been playing at left-wing back for Accrington for whatever reason, but he is a midfield player. He is left-footed, strong, scored seven goals last season so we feel he can add goals and assists," boss Darren Ferguson told the Posh website, external.

"He is a good all-round midfield player, will play anywhere you ask him too. He has a great attitude and I love his mentality, definitely ready for the step-up."

Ferguson added: "At the moment, he has just undergone a small operation on his hand, that is why he has missed a few games including the one against us [in the EFL Cup]. It will keep him out a period of time, around three weeks, which isn't ideal."

Woods said: "I wanted to come to the club anyway, but as soon as I spoke to the manager, that cemented it in seconds. I feel it is the right time to make the move and the right club to make the move to.

"The positive aspect of currently being unavailable is that I can get myself settled, house-wise, get to know the players and the city and then when I am ready, I can focus fully on the football."

Posh have lost all three League One games so far in the new season and are at home to Barnsley on Tuesday evening.
