Former Leeds United and Reading manager Brian McDermott is leaving his role as Hibernian director of football after just over a year in post.

The Scottish Premiership club say that, "following extended discussions", the 63-year-old Englishman will depart at the end of June following the expiration of his contract.

McDermott joined Hibs last May and oversaw the club’s football operation, holding a specific focus on recruitment.

However, his exit comes a month after Nick Montgomery was sacked as head coach after his side missed out on a top-six finish in the Scottish Premiership, with former Hibs captain David Gray promoted to the role after a short spell as caretaker.

Malky Mackay was also recently appointed sporting director while former Scotland goalkeeper David Marshall is retiring from playing to become technical performance manager working under the former Scottish FA performance director.

Thanking McDermott for his work with Hibs, Mackay told the club website: "Brian is someone I’ve known for a long time and is a really good man.

"Brian and I had a good discussion and came to this conclusion."
