Tottenham are closing in on appointing Brentford manager Thomas Frank as their new head coach by the weekend.

The ongoing talks between the clubs have progressed positively and there is a growing feeling that Frank could be confirmed as Ange Postecoglou's successor within the next 48 hours.

Discussions are understood to be amicable and there is a will from all parties to conclude the agreement quickly.

BBC Sport understands that recently appointed Spurs chief executive Vinai Venkatesham, who only started work last Monday, has been involved in the process of appointing Frank, alongside chairman Daniel Levy.

Brentford are entitled to compensation for the 51-year-old Frank, who joined them in 2016 after a stint with Brondby, with sources indicating it will cost Tottenham £10m to release him from his contract.

That amount could rise based on how many members of staff the Dane decides to bring with him.

Frank took charge at Brentford in 2018, after his initial spell as assistant boss, and guided them into the Premier League, winning the Championship play-off final at Wembley in 2021 and establishing them as a top-flight club on a small budget.

Brentford finished 10th in the 2024-25 Premier League season, seven places and 18 points above Tottenham, who ended in 17th spot and won just 11 of their 38 games in the competition.

Australian Postecoglou was sacked 16 days after leading Tottenham to victory in the Europa League final, their first major trophy for 17 years.

One of the first issues facing Frank, if appointed in north London, would be the future of captain Son Heung-min.

"I still have one more year left on the contract," Son said on Tuesday to Korean agency Yonhap.

"Rather than saying anything at this moment, I think we should all wait and see what happens."

'Strange' decision to sack Postecoglou - Van de Ven

Spurs defender Micky van de Ven says it was a puzzling decision to get rid of Postecoglou after the Australian ended the club's 17-year trophy drought by winning the Europa League.

The 24-year-old Netherlands defender, who was signed by Postecoglou in August 2023, told Voetbalzone: "I think many of the players got along with him well, and of course he is the first coach who has brought success to Spurs in a long time.

"That also shows that he has a certain quality. That also means that he has a winning mentality, 100%. From that, you would of course say that it is strange that he was fired.

"That was ultimately a choice from the club. We will see what happens now. Of course, we see some rumours about the Brentford head coach, who it will probably be."
