Stockport County have signed former Sheffield United midfielder Oliver Norwood on a free transfer.

The 33-year-old was released by the Blades following their relegation from the Premier League last season and has moved to Edgeley Park on a three-year contract.

Norwood is a Northern Ireland international with 57 caps and had extensive Championship experience with Huddersfield, Reading and Brighton before joining Sheffield United in 2019.

The Manchester United youth product played 27 times in the Premier League last season and he played on trial for Stockport in a pre-season friendly against Blackburn Rovers three weeks ago.

The announcement of Norwood's arrival came hours after the club revealed that striker Kyle Wootton has signed a new three-year contract.

The Hatters sit top of League One after two games, following two promotions in three seasons under manager Dave Challinor.
