Guernsey FC's record appearance-maker Matt Loaring is likely miss the rest of the season after suffering a serious facial injury in the 2-2 draw with Badshot Lea.

The 34-year-old fractured his cheekbone and eye socket during an accidental clash of heads early in the second half of Sunday's match.

Loaring, who has scored 111 goals in 408 Guernsey FC appearances, will have to travel to Southampton to have surgery on the injury.

"Matt is not only a terrific player but also a true cornerstone of Guernsey FC," a club statement read.

"His passion, skill, and commitment have inspired us all, and his absence will be deeply felt both on and off the pitch.

"We're sure everyone in the Green Lion family will join us in sending their best wishes to Matt for a smooth surgery and a full recovery."
