Cambridge United captain Michael Morrison has been discharged from hospital after suffering a bruised lung during Saturday's 1-1 draw with Harrogate Town.

Morrison had to go off in the 39th minute of the game following a collision with U's goalkeeper Jake Eastwood.

"He has now been discharged from Addenbrookes and will begin his road to recovery. It's too early to speculate on when he will return to play," the club posted on X.

"Morro wants to thank everyone for the messages and well wishes - he hopes to be back with the team soon."

The 37-year-old began his career with Cambridge and is now in his second spell at the Cledara Abbey Stadium, having been re-signed from Portsmouth in January 2023.

Morrison will definitely not be involved when Cambridge return to action on Tuesday with an away game against Colchester United, having taken four points from their first three games following last season's relegation.

"He's had scans and X-rays on his torso and organs and it looks like he is in a good position. I can't share too much medically because he's having further tests," boss Neil Harris told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.

"There were some players around him at the time who saw the state he was in, emotionally and physically, who were a little bit worried about him.

"We wish him a speedy recovery. We want him back in the building quickly but there's certainly going to be no pressure from me. Let's see what the next 48, 72 hours brings."
