The ball goes deep to the back-post, Peterborough striker Ricky Jade Jones literally throws off his marker, but his shot is blocked behind.

Swung in corner, Scowen again involved, booming away the header.

Garath McCleary connects meatily with a volley in the Posh box from a fine flick-on and it wasn't far away.

The Posh defence only just got in to deny a chance before when Harrison Burrows headed away a Richad Kone cross.

It's been a really promising start for Matt Bloomfield's side. That might be the chance that opens this game up. Wycombe might think let's play a little bit quicker and catch Peterborough out.

There's lots of noise from the Wycombe side. Those 200 or so Spanish fans in the front couple of rows - it's a real carnival atmosphere.

Best chance so far as Wycombe get a couple of efforts away.

Richard Kone works a yard on the edge of the box, gets a shot which is blocked.

As soon as the side in blue make it half-way, the Chairboys in their green and white are on it.

Kwame Poku gets a yard and pushes forward, giving Jadel Katongo the ball out wide, receives it back and curls an effort high and wide of the Wycombe goal.

That was his sighter, and encouraging in terms of his ability to get away.

You always get some people who disregard this competition but why wouldn't you want to go out and play at Wembley?

It's going to be a cracking game, cracking atmosphere. It could go either way; you've got a team full of experience and a team full of young players.

Given the sponsors are a car dealership, it's no surprise that a remote control car has delivered the matchball.

Players compete the pre-match pageantry, as they shake hands with their opposite numbers.

You can see on the faces that they - as a whole - just want to crack on now.

Teams are heading out on to that famous patch of grass.

They might not have the old ascent up the tunnel and over the greyhound track these days, but it's still a special moment to walk out and feel that hit of the senses.

For a club that only made it into the Football League as recently as 1993, Wycombe Wanderers have a Wembley record that would impress many a club in the higher leagues.

As amateurs they were FA Amateur Cup winners in 1931, and under Martin O'Neill pictured above in suitably dapper suit, won the FA Trophy in 1991 and 1993.

Play-off wins followed, with 1994 and 2020 triumphs, as the national stadium has become a happy hunting ground, on the whole, albeit they lost their last visit against Sunderland in 2022.

Peterborough United have never lost at Wembley on their three previous visits so the pressure is on for boss Darren Ferguson not to drop the proverbial ball here.

The first time Posh came to the old Twin Towers was in 1992, when Chris Turner's side beat Stockport County to win promotion to the old Second Division thanks to Ken Charlery's double.

They then beat Darlington 1-0 in 2000 to enjoy another play-off final success, and then 14 years later beat Chesterfield to win this competition for the first time.

That was a Ferguson-managed triumph, and the Scot - now in his fourth spell at the club - is looking for another today.

Matt Bloomfield knows just how satisfying it can be to win at Wembley, albeit he did so in an empty stadium with Wycombe Wanderers back in 2020.

The Chairboys boss was captain that day as Oxford United were dispatched to secure promotion to the Championsip, but missed out on the adrenaline rush of a packed end.

It was a far cry frome his disappointment from a penalties loss to Southend in 2015's League Two play-off final.

His goal this time round is to give his players the gameplan to follow suit.

"I have 20 players' hopes and dreams of playing at Wembley in my decisions," he said.

"As a player it's a selfish life because you have to be concerned about yourself and your performance. As a manager there's lots to think about, [but] it's why we do it.

"I'm a football romantic. To go back there as a captain and a manager is amazing… a wonderfully proud day for my family and everyone being there watching.

"Ultimately you have to put that to one side because you're judged on winning and losing at Wembley."
