It was a professional performance from Chelsea in the second half to see the game out. A lot of young players got the minutes which will be invaluable for them.

The Chelsea players have gone to applaud the fans who have made the trip. They will now want to get on that plane, make it home and start preparing for Brentford on Sunday.

Some of the academy graduates out there today have looked brilliant. Can't wait to see how much we sell them to Newcastle and Atletico Madrid for.

  6. INJURY TIMEpublished at 17:21 Greenwich Mean Time

    Astana 1-3 Chelsea

I'm sure the freezing cold players will appreciate that the officials have added on just the two minutes of stoppage time at the end of this one.

  7. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 17:19 Greenwich Mean Time

    Astana 1-3 Chelsea

Astana captain Marin Tomasov produces a wonderful crossfield ball for Ousmane Camara, but the forward cannot pick out the top corner with the finish.

That is goalscorer Tomasov's last involvement as he is replaced by Nazmi Gripshi.

The future is indeed bright for Chelsea. They have been buying a lot of players in recent years but this homegrown bunch have proved their worth today.

  9. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 17:17 Greenwich Mean Time

    Astana 1-3 Chelsea

One youngster for another as Chelsea make another change.

Sam Rak-Sakyi makes way after a composed display in midfield. He is replaced by Kiano Dyer.

  10. Postpublished at 17:16 Greenwich Mean Time

    Astana 1-3 Chelsea

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall dribbles his way through the Astana defence but opts to round the keeper instead of shooting first time.

Samuel Rak-Sakyi just deals with the ball really well. Everything he does is really simple and that's exactly what you need from that position.

He is another of the Chelsea youngsters who has looked really comfortable out there today.

I wish Man United took the Chelsea approach to Europe. Playing kids and letting the first team stay back to rest and get more time on the training ground with the new manager.

  13. Postpublished at 17:13 Greenwich Mean Time

    Astana 1-3 Chelsea

More chaos in the Chelsea defence.

Filip Jorgensen plays a short pass to Tosin Adarabioyo, who is set upon in a flash by two Astana forwards.

His onward pass is cut out by Ousmane Camara but luckily the offside flag goes up to stop the attack going any further.

  14. Postpublished at 17:11 Greenwich Mean Time

    Astana 1-3 Chelsea

Astana break forward down the right through full back Karlo Bartolec.

He tries to pick out substitute Ramazan Karimov in the middle but Filip Jorgensen beats the forward to it.

Chelsea just need to be wary of not letting their foot off the gas too much here. Another goal for the hosts could make the last ten minutes or so a bit tricky.

  15. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 17:09 Greenwich Mean Time

    Astana 1-3 Chelsea

Another Chelsea change brings about another debut.

17-year-old Shim Mheuka comes on in place of Marc Guiu, who ends the night with a two goal tally.

  17. Postpublished at 17:06 Greenwich Mean Time

    Astana 1-3 Chelsea

It has been a bit more of an even contest in this second half with Astana looking more defensively organised.

Although having said that, with a comfortable 3-1 lead Chelsea are just holding back a little.

Re John (16:45): True they have conceded more but they have also scored more than Arsenal & Villa combined. What would you rather see?

    Alan C

Replying to John. Chelsea have scored 21 in four and a half games 8 more than the three teams you mentioned. Definitely a more enjoyable watch.

    Anon

John. They’re also above the two of them in the Premier League.

Chelsea are just picking up the tempo again now.
