  1. 'Hall brings us unique qualities'published at 10:02 GMT

Newcastle v Tottenham (Tue, 20:15 GMT)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe on Lewis Hall: "We tried to do that [manage his return from injury] in his early steps of coming back. It was really important we didn't thrust him into starting too many games consecutively at that point but I think the time away with England was important to get him so robustness in terms of some 11v11 action over a two week period.

"They looked after him well and he came back, I think you can see towards the end of games he is fatiguing but hopefully that will improve as we go through. There also comes a time where we have to try and get him to play the minutes we need to play him. he is such an important player. He brings us unique qualities and we want him on the pitch as often as possible. Let's see how he feels. We will always make the judgement call on the various tests we do in the build up to games."

  2. 'Hopefully this is the turning point'published at 09:59 GMT

Newcastle v Tottenham (Tue, 20:15 GMT)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe on how important it is to back up their first away Premier League win of the season: "It is vitally important that we find the consistency we are searching for. It seems like we are yo-yoing between Champions League and Premier League and not quite able to put our foot on the floor and find that sweet spot we have been searching for all season.

"Hopefully this is the turning point for us. But every opponent we face in the Premier League is so difficult and now we face Tottenham who are a good team who have their own strengths and a team we are going to have to respect as we always do."

  3. 'I see a steady performer in Elanga'published at 09:55 GMT

Newcastle v Tottenham (Tue, 20:15 GMT)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe on Malick Thiaw's goals against Everton: "It's an interesting one with Malick because he has ended up, if you look back at a lot of our set plays, getting his head on quite a bit. I think his movement, his aggression, his timing is really good but he hadn't put the finishing touches to that in the way that he did on Saturday.

"He took two great headers, something we work a lot on. It was great to see that work coming good for us. The importance of set play goals, it wins and losses you games. It's great to see us on the right side of it."

And on Anthony Elanga: "I think the first transition of the game right from kick-off is him almost running the length of the pitch onto a great pass from Nick [Woltemade] and almost scoring, that set the tone for us in the game so I think he can be very pleased with his contribution to the game and how he is beginning to settle into life at Newcastle. It is a big change for any player. I am seeing a level, steady performer. I think he continues to get better and better."

  4. 'Woltemade has a way of making things look dramatic'published at 09:52 GMT

Newcastle v Tottenham (Tue, 20:15 GMT)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe on Nick Woltemade's goal against Everton: "That was one of my favourite goals of his so far. I think the finish was on but very few players would have been able to execute it in the manner that he does. He has a way of making things look dramatic and I think it was an outstanding finish.

"It was great build-up by Anthony Elanga, it's great to see him get his assist and show his pace and what he can do for us in the transition. But Nick did the rest and he did it really well."

  5. 'Physically the players have to dig deep'published at 09:49 GMT

Newcastle v Tottenham (Tue, 20:15 GMT)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe on David Moyes' comments, saying Newcastle are the most physical team in the league: "When we are very good in that respect I think we are very difficult to play against. I think we have executed a few games this year where we haven't been that team and we are nowhere near as effective.

"The game schedule we have, fresh players on the pitch is one thing and then you have to execute the plan. Physically this year the players are going to have to dig deep because there are a lot of games but that was a big step forward against Everton."

  6. Howe on goalkeeping situationpublished at 09:45 GMT

Newcastle v Tottenham (Tue, 20:15 GMT)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe on goalkeeper Nick Pope, who was absent from the squad for the win at Everton: "No further update from Saturday. He is probably one of a number of players that we will analyse early this week and try and get a proper diagnosis."

And on Aaron Ramsdale, who started in goal at Hill Dickinson Stadium: "I am sure he felt good returning to Newcastle as we all felt after the game, it is a feeling we haven't had very often being away from home where you've done a good job, you've complete your objective and you're focused on the next game in a positive way. He can be very pleased, it's a really good start for him."

  7. 'This is a key time'published at 09:43 GMT

Newcastle v Tottenham (Tue, 20:15 GMT)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe on Tottenham: "That was a tough game [when we played them in the EFL Cup] and this one will be the same. We might see a change in personnel because we have had a few players back from that game but they have a strong squad. I think they have got some good players and a good manager as well so it will be a great game."

And on the importance of consistency this season: "We always felt, even during some difficult runs, that the league is very tight this year and a consistent run of victories can propel you very quickly up the league.

"We are in a better position than we were, not necessarily in terms of league position but in terms of points gap. A couple of wins and we are back to where we want to be.

"This is a really key time because what you can't do is allow yourself to become detached. We know where we want to be, we have work to do to get there and we really need a run of games where we have positive results. That is what we are looking for."

  8. Botman 'to see a specialist'published at 09:40 GMT

Newcastle v Tottenham (Tue, 20:15 GMT)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe on injured defender Sven Botman: "Sven is going to see a specialist in the next couple of days just to get a definitive opinion on whether he needs an injection or whether he is able to rest for a few days and then resume training. So we'll wait and see."

  9. 'Wissa played in an 11 v 11 training game'published at 09:37 GMT

Newcastle v Tottenham (Tue, 20:15 GMT)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe on team news: "No fresh injuries I believe. We will have a good look at the lads today. Positive physical performance I thought. It wasn't the biggest game in terms of load so the lads are okay."

On Yoane Wissa's fitness: "[Wissa] participated in an 11v11 training game while we were at Everton and I think he will have another one at some stage this week. We will see how close he is."

  11. Will Wissa be available?published at 09:31 GMT

Newcastle v Tottenham (Tue, 20:15 GMT)

The last time we heard an injury update from Eddie Howe was on Friday, where the Newcastle boss confirmed Yoane Wissa was back in training but he did not confirm a return date for the forward. Wissa has not played for Newcastle since signing in September because of his knee injury.

Howe will likely be giving an update on Wissa's fitness later this morning.

Everton looked poor for most of the match but that's to take nothing away from Newcastle. Away from home previously they've been the better side and still been incapable of winning. 4-1 was a dominant win, Thiaw is the biggest bargain I've seen and Wissa hasn't even played yet, promising.

  13. How good is Newcastle's home form?published at 09:23 GMT

Newcastle v Tottenham (Tue, 20:15 GMT)

Newcastle may have started to steer their away form back on track, but they will feel confident this week as their home record has been impressive.

The last time they lost at home was to Arsenal on 28 September. Since then they have beaten Nottingham Forest, Fulham and Manchester City in the Premier League; Benfica and Athletic Bilbao in the Champions League, and Tottenham in the EFL Cup.

  14. Where does the weekend leave Newcastle?published at 09:19 GMT

    Everton 1-4 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle's clinical defeat of Everton on Saturday has seen them leapfrog the Toffees in the table.

Eddie Howe's side are now 13th, but just four points outside of the top five and six behind the top four.

They are also now seven points outside of the relegation zone.

  15. Newcastle break poor away recordpublished at 09:15 GMT

    Everton 1-4 Newcastle

As Ciaran mentioned, before Newcastle beat Everton on Saturday they had not won an away game across all competitions since the start of October.

That victory came against Union Saint-Gilloise in the Champions League on 1 October. Since then they lost away to Brighton, West Ham and Brentford in the Premier League, and Marseille in the Champions League.

Fans will be hoping the win over the Toffees will give their team winning momentum when they travel.

  16. Howe has welcome selection dilemmaspublished at 09:10 GMT

You suspect Eddie Howe will be a little relieved.

Instead of fielding questions about another failure on the road, at this morning's news conference the Newcastle United head coach will be reflecting on his side ending a seven-month wait for an away league win, against Everton.

It feels like Newcastle have precious momentum again after recording back-to-back victories in the top flight for the first time since April.

But the challenge now is to build on those wins against Everton and Manchester City ahead of the visit of Tottenham Hotspur to St James’ Park on Tuesday night, and Howe has some big selection calls to make.

Though Newcastle have a quick turnaround from the weekend, it is not necessarily a given that Fabian Schar, Sandro Tonali, Jacob Murphy or Anthony Gordon will all come straight back into the side after they were rotated at the weekend.

Expect Howe to be asked about the renewed competition for places and to provide the latest on Nick Pope’s groin issue and Yoane Wissa’s progress after the forward returned to group training last week.
