Will Davies hit a first-half brace to help Fleetwood to a 2-1 win at home to Bristol Rovers in League Two.

The summer signing from Sutton hit his second and third goals for the Cod Army as they made it two wins from two this season.

For the first quarter of the game, neither side looked like breaking the other down, with former Fleetwood striker Promise Omochere going closest for Rovers with a header that cleared the bar.

But the hosts took a firm grip on the game with two Davies goals in nine minutes.

After 26 minutes Elliot Bonds was given space on the Fleetwood right and he delivered a low, driven cross to Davies, who kept his cool to produce a composed finish.

His second came from a ball in behind by Harrison Neal. Davies simply outpaced Alfie Kilgour and neatly lobbed keeper Luke Southwood.

Kamil Conteh almost halved the deficit in stoppage time, but his well-struck drive went inches past the post.

Fleetwood keeper Jay Lynch had to be on his toes 10 minutes after the break. Zech Medley's clearing header ricocheted off Conteh's head, with the rebound only stopped from finding the top corner by Lynch.

But Lynch was helpless to prevent Omochere from scoring a penalty for the visitors with 16 minutes remaining. After he had been fouled by James Bolton, Omochere sent the spot-kick down the middle to make it 2-1.
