A superb solo goal from debutant Frankie Okoronkwo saw Karl Robinson’s Salford City chalk up their first win of the season as they defeated his former side MK Dons 1-0.
Salford largely had to hold off sustained pressure from the Dons for most of the first half – Alex Gilbey having his first-minute shot saved by Jamie Jones.
MK Dons' Aaron Nemane caused plenty of problems for the hosts during the first 45 minutes, firstly squaring to team-mate Joe Tomlinson who was denied by Jones, before the goalkeeper then charged down Nemane’s shot after 40 minutes.
Salford responded with a moment of magic from new arrival Okoronkwo.
The 19-year-old, who arrived on loan from Everton, danced around two challenges and then jinked past Luke Offord on the edge of the box before finishing excellently with a pin-point left-footed shot past Tom McGill.
After a string of important first-half saves, Jones’ most pivotal came six minutes from time as he tipped Dons substitute Tommy Leigh’s effort onto a post, ensuring Salford’s win.
