Still no signs of the England players just yet but the fans outside the airport remain patient and their numbers have steadily grown.

They have been waiting for a while now but spirits remain very high and the anticipation continues to grow.

Something tells me, when the Lionesses do emerge, the scenes will be worth the wait.

Been following the women's game since Euro 2005, and have been lucky enough to be at both our final wins. To have witnessed the growth of the women's game over the past 20 years has been nothing short of incredible, these women are awe inspiring. Tears were shed last night.

Still no signs of the Lionesses players, but a former England international, Jill Scott, is the first person of note to come out of the Southend Airport.

She walks over to the crowd gathered outside the airport and clicks some selfies with some young fans and is signing autographs.

Former Manchester City midfielder Scott, of course, was part of the England squad that lifted the Euro at Wembley in 2022.

"We'll remember this forever," said Jo from Sevenoaks as she and her friends emerged from St Jakob-Park in Basel moments after England won the women's Euros.

She is certainly dedicated. Jo was at a festival in the UK a mere 24 hours ago.

I asked them how this moment ranks out of 10 in the greatest moments of their lives so far.

"11," replied Charlie, who is from Brighton.

"You know how men still go on about [England's] World Cup win in 1966? I'm going to be like that," Vicky from Stockport told me.

"Brilliant," is one word that nearly every single England fan I spoke to uttered as I called out to them outside the stadium. Many looked dazed.

The fact that it was Chloe Kelly who scored the extra-time winner in the Euros final against Germany three years ago - how many players get the opportunity to win a major competition for their nation not once but twice?

Honestly, it’s just remarkable what this woman and what this side have achieved.

I reckon they are all stuck at those passport scanners. Staring into those lenses only to be told they have to go to the actual person at border control.

Anyway, before I subject you to any more of my nonsense - I'll hand you over to my colleague Adwaidh.

A memorable live text today. Up the European champion Lionesses!

Well done ladies and thank you for being who you are. You are living my dream when I was a young girl, all I wanted to do was play football my two brothers taught me the offside rule, but my school wouldn't allow girls to play, they were boys' sports not for girls. I love watching you all. God bless each and every one of you. Xxxxxx

Might have jumped the gun a bit with that one.

We've got a football freestyler doing kick-ups and other things I certainly cannot do with a football to keep the fans busy in the meantime, though.

There's a red carpet laid for the players where they will exit the building and a camera has just been set up ready for them walking out.

    Any time now...

My daughter has never shown any interest in football despite me (West Ham) and her mum (MUFC) being ardent fans - maybe that’s why! Last night she sent a pic of her watching the game in an England shirt - well done Lionesses - you achieved two miracles in one night!!

Captain Leah Williamson and manager Sarina Wiegman were the first off the plane - Williamson with trophy proudly in hand.

I wonder if she's let go of that once on the flight?

The others followed closely behind. England flags drooped around the waists of many and medals hanging around the necks of all.
