Tranmere earned their first League Two victory of the season with a 4-0 thrashing of Shrewsbury at Prenton Park.

The home side started brightly and were almost in front when Josh Davison fired narrowly wide before Charlie Whitaker saw a long-range effort fly over the crossbar.

The breakthrough eventually came after 19 minutes when Taylan Harris finished from close range following neat play down the left by Whitaker.

Just three minutes later, Davison doubled Rovers' lead with a composed strike from the edge of the box.

Rovers almost made it three before half-time but goalkeeper Toby Savin tipped Omari Patrick's goal-bound effort on to a post.

Shrewsbury started brightly after the break, forcing Tranmere stopper Luke McGee into a save from substitute Taylor Perry.

However, their hopes of an unlikely comeback faded in the 58th minute when Will Boyle was shown a second yellow card for an elbow on Davison.

The points were secured in the 74th minute when Patrick rifled the ball into the top corner from outside the area before he set up Kristian Dennis for a fourth with three minutes remaining.
